      <image:title>Child counselling - Play therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Play therapy is a form of therapy commonly used with younger children. Play therapy allows children to express thoughts, feelings, experiences and behaviour and to communicate, practice and master new skills through their natural inclination to engage in play. Play therapy can be non-directive or directive depending on the needs of the child. This means that sometimes there will be time allocated for free play based activity and at other times the child may be directed to particular activities.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Child counselling - What is involved?</image:title>
<image:caption>The first session involves one or both parents/carers and will involve a thorough assessment including your child’s developmental history in order to fully understand your child’s situation. After the initial assessment there are several possibilities. It may be decided to engage the child in therapy, or to work only with the parents/carers, or that a combination of child therapy and parenting support may be best.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Adolescent Counselling - What is involved</image:title>
<image:caption>Psychological therapy with adolescents typically involves more traditional talk therapy though games may be used to help break the ice and get to know each other. We can explore the reasons for engaging in counselling and together we can work out how to tackle the issues you are facing.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Adolescent Counselling - How it will work</image:title>
<image:caption>This will depend on the age of the adolescent, however, it is helpful to meet with parents to gain a thorough understanding of the situation and the adolescent’s developmental history. Confidentiality is essential to a trusting therapeutic relationship and this will be explained and discussed at the start of treatment. Parental involvement will be based on the adolescent’s individual situation.</image:caption>
